Hope is Why We're Here
In our work to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent victimization, NCMEC works in various, integrated capacities to aid victims, families, law enforcement, and others working to find missing children and end child sexual abuse.
For families with a missing or sexually exploited child, NCMEC provides crisis intervention and local counseling referrals to appropriate professionals. Our Team HOPE program connects families with peers who have had similar experiences and can offer coping skills and compassion. When a missing child is recovered, we help families with the reunification process, including mental health services and travel assistance.
From Case Management to Forensic Services, NCMEC has dedicated staff and partners available to assist in cases involving missing and exploited children.
NCMEC is committed to providing training, technical assistance, and resources at no cost to law enforcement and other personnel who investigate cases of crimes against children, specifically cases of missing children and child sexual exploitation. NCMEC offers online programs as well as in-person trainings.
NCMEC provides safety and prevention resources for families and professionals focusing on child abduction, child sexual exploitation, and internet safety.
- KidSmartz: A child safety program that educates families and kids about preventing abduction, empowering elementary-aged students to practice safer behaviors.
- NetSmartz: A digital citizenship and safety program offering free, age-appropriate resources including videos, games, presentations, classroom lessons, and other resources to help children learn to protect themselves online.
- Safe to Compete: Guidelines for youth-serving sporting organizations and the parents of child athletes to help protect children from sexual abuse.
- Code Adam: Protocol and training resources for managers and employees to follow in the event that a customer or patron reports a missing child on the premises.
NCMEC’s research team is able to analyze case data and CybeTipline information to assess trends in the field and help inform NCMEC’s prevention education programing.
