JOIN the International Child Abduction Attorney Network
In a nationwide effort to assist parents, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® asks attorneys to volunteer to represent left behind parents of children abducted by a family member. A commitment to handle at least one pro bono case entitles you to membership in the International Child Abduction Attorney Network.
ICAAN is an excellent opportunity to gain international, family law experience. Many ICAAN attorneys specialize in family or international law, but NCMEC can provide members without prior experience with reference materials, issue briefs and technical assistance.
For each case, we provide:
- Court orders, relevant legal documents and translations (if necessary).
- Information about the possible location of the child and respondent parent.
- Proof of the applicant’s low income status.
- Helpful articles and model legal forms relating to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, also known as the Hague Convention.
- Legal technical assistance.
Register below or contact us at 1-800-THE-LOST® (1-800-843-5678) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note regarding ICAAN and the transition of incoming Central Authority duties to the U.S. Department of State:
Following the transition of incoming Central Authority duties from NCMEC to the U.S. Department of State in 2008, ICAAN's role has broadened from providing representation to left behind parents regarding incoming Hague Convention matters to providing representation in international and domestic family abduction matters of all kinds, including both Hague Convention and non-Hague Convention matters.
If you are interested in being part of the U.S. Department of State’s attorney referral program we can provide your information to the Office of Children’s Issues or you may contact them directly at HagueConventionAttorneyNetwork@state.gov or 1-888-407-4747. For more information visit the U.S. Department of State’s resource page for attorneys and judges and their Attorney Network Flyer.
